History
(1) The 4th National Conference on International Cooperation in Science and Technology held in November 1986 and the 5th National Conference on International Exchange in Science and Technology held in April 1987 proposed that China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation be set up, and the response to the proposals from the international science and technology cooperation community in China was very positive;
(2) In February 1990, the Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the National Science and Technology Commission invited the heads of the departments of international cooperation of various science-related agencies to have discussions on the necessity of the creation of China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation. Views were also expressed on the draft Statutes, source of funding and the leading members of the proposed Association. Consensus was reached on all issues discussed.
(3) On February 12, 1992, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the application for the establishment of China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation. The Association was formally registered and received a ¡¶Registration Certificate for Non-government Organization of the People¡¯s Republic of China¡·(Series Number 948).
(4) On March 16, 1992, China Association for international Science and Technology Cooperation was formally created and the first General Assembly was held. During the assembly, the statutes of the Association was adopted, members of both the Council and the standing Committee of the Council, and the leading members were elected. The Assembly also adopted a decisions to invite 12 senior advisors.
(5) ON September 14, 1995, the 2nd General Assembly and the 2nd Session of the council were held, during which, the 2nd leading group headed by Professor WU Yikan was elected.
(6) On November 23, Professor SHI Guangchang was elected as the President of the association during the 3rd General Assembly and the 3rd session of the Council.
(7) On 26 September 2006, Prof. Zhu Zuoyan was elected as the new President during the 4th General Assembly and the 4th session of the Council.
